AEM designed and hosted a formal gala in honor of President Barack Obama
On January 20, 2009 AEM designed and hosted a formal gala in honor of President Barack Obama at The Embassy Suites Hotel in Washington, DC. The evening was electrifying and full of excitement as we earlier witnessed Barack Obama be sworn in as our nation’s 44th Presient. On this eve there was bittersweet rembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, who sacrificed and gave his life so that Barack Obama could travel the road that led him to 1600 Pensylvania Avenue. Our full attendance of 125 guests from all over the country included speakers, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-Connecticut) Stanley B.Greenberg, Chairman and CEO, Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research, Washington, DC and Ali Webb, Deputy Director, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Battlecreek, MI. The event themed: Our Children, Our Future was also a center topic as we honored R.I.S.E. Learning Center the recipient of an award recognition of their endless commitment to educating our youth. The founders of R.I.S.E., Sharold Smith CEO, and Ronald Smith, CFO and their staff will be featured in the Spring/April Edition of the African American Golfer’s Digest. For more information on R.I.S.E., visit www.riselearningcenter.com.As we honored Dr. Marting Luther King another highlight of the evening was special recognition and dedication made to The Brookvale Warriors, a group of black students who in 1965 marched from Brookvale High School to the small town of Kilmarnock, VA during the Civil Rights Movement for justice and equality.
